Turkish Baked Apples with Walnuts is a traditional dessert inspired by Turkey’s rich culinary heritage, where fruits and nuts are often combined to create sweet treats. This dish features tender baked apples filled with a spiced mixture of walnuts, honey, and raisins, then topped with a dollop of creamy yoghurt. Infused with cinnamon and cardamom, it offers a warm and aromatic finish. Serves 4
Ingredients:
4 cooking Apples (ie Granny Smith)
1 cup Walnuts, crushed
4 tsp Spice Culture Sweet Baharat Blend
4 tbsp Brown sugar
1 tbsp Butter, cut into pieces
2 tbsp Lemon juice
Instructions:
- In a bowl mix walnuts, Sweet Baharat spice blend, brown sugar and butter.
- Prepare the apples for baking depending on your preference.
- Ie: peel and rub with lemon juice, or cut a line around the centre of apple peel to allow it to expand.
- Core the apples, but do not cut all the way through to the bottom.
- Fill the apples with the walnut mix.
- Place in a baking dish with 1 cup water and bring to the boil.
- Bake in a moderate oven (180oc) for 30-40 minutes basting occasionally, until apples are tender.
Serve with custard, cream or icecream, topped with some of the juice from the pan poured over and a sprinkle of Sweet Baharat.
